We stayed in the larger Griffon Gite with 2 friends for a week and then our daughter and her husband joined us for the second week. We all had such a wonderful holiday. After 2 stays at the campsite below the village (which is not visible from the village) we had often wondered about staying in Cantobre itself - 30 years later, we made it! And so glad we did! I could sit on the terrace, looking at the views for ever! Dear little Midge, the cocker spaniel, was a big hit and Lionel and Peggy the nicest, friendliest hosts you could wish for. Thank you so much.

Lovely view and it was immaculate. The beds were very comfy and the outside table and chairs were perfect for the nice weather. My only complaint was that I would have liked a bathroom upstairs. I would definitely choose to come again. Also such friendly owners.

Vue incroyable dont nous avons largement profité en prenant nos petits déjeuners au soleil et des dîners et apéritifs au frais. Un vrai bonheur. Have been waiting to get here for 3 summers. Covid got in the way! Lovely gîte in a beautiful location and the vultures flying overhead add to the interest. We have had holidays in the campsite down the valley but this beats it hands down. Lionel and Peggy are extremely good hosts and very informative. Have really enjoyed our holiday here. Shame we have to leave. We will be back.

Magnifique réunion de la famille pour célébrer les 80 ans de notre grand père! Le cadre était fantastique pour nos barbecues sur la terrasse, le salon très confortable pour le soirées de jeux et la région très intéressante pour nos sorties ensemble. Merci à vous deux de nous avoir permis cette semaine agréable entre le gîte du haut et le gîte du bas reliés par le passage secret de la grotte et du jardin.

Beau gîte disposant de tous les équipements requis pour un séjour familial. La vue est tout simplement superbe, que ce soit de la terrasse privative ou du jardin partagé. Nous nous sommes sentis très privilégiés de séjourner à Cantobre, village préservé du tourisme de masse, qui est une véritable pépite dans la région. L’accueil de Peggy et de Lionel est professionnel et amical, avec cette pointe d’humour anglais qui fait toute la différence.

We’ve had a great week. Thanks for everything including carrying the cases and showing us where the eagles and vultures are. Got a nice photo of one of them, don’t know which? Had a lovely drive over the Cévennes National Park to the Chauvet Caves at Vallon Pont D’Arc. Well worth seeing the 35,000 year old cave drawings! Down south we visited Bouzigues (for oysters) and Noilly Prat at Marseillan. The Gite is splendid. Looking down on the tops of trees. Wow!

We stayed in Lou Castel, Cantobre for the "rocky outcrop experience", the wildlife (birds and butterflies) and geocaching (a kind of world-wide, hi-tech hide & seek), and we were not disappointed. Furthermore, Lionel & Peggy’s knowledge of local fauna & flora and, yes, even geocaching, was an unexpected bonus! resulting in many fascinating conversations about vultures (vautours), choughs, midwife toads that go "boop-boop-boop" at night and... you name it. Peggy and Lionel’s garden is full of unique & pleasing features, each item usually a conversation piece in itself. Ask about the head looking out of the old sink! I managed to take lots of photos of butterflies, day-flying moths, birds and views of the surrounding countryside without leaving our "eerie" retreat. Out and about in the area, whether on top of the causses or in the clear-water river valleys, there’s so much to see. Thank you Peggy & Lionel for being such funds of knowledge, humour and helpful kindness. Keep up the excellent work for your guests and, of course, in that wonderful garden and vegetable plot. The Lou Castel gîtes were a good starting point for different tours, e.g. looking at Mont Aigoual, the Gorges de la Jonte (vultures!), La Cavalerie... But we also enjoyed walking in the hills around Nant, a small town well worth a visit (la boulangerie & Grosskopf!!). Autumn in Cantobre, we can recommend it! We enjoyed our 17 day stay in the holiday gîtes of Peggy and Lionel a lot. In the evenings we looked at the magnificent starry sky and detected the Milky Way! In Autumn we took a lot of photos - haze in the morning, gorgeous light, especially in the late afternoon - we promise to send you some of our photos! We collected lots of chestnuts, walnuts and mushrooms and liked to prepare these delicacies for our dinner. Thanks very much to Peggy and Lionel.
